Join me in a conversation about the simplicity and complexity of creative indifference. We can gather to deepen our understanding of the fertile and restless space of everything and nothing. To hold this space for a client we need to be deliberate and intentional, because of our natural inclination to gravitate toward one side of each polarity.
In this workshop, we will Discuss how Salomo Friedlaender, Fritz Perls, and Laura Perls helped to develop the philosophy and use of creative indifference in gestalt therapy. We will view gestalt therapy as an aesthetic and learn why creativity is at the heart of our work as gestalt practitioners.
I will share a short anecdote of my own personal integration of creative indifference. Next, we will experiment with creative indifference in breakout rooms by working toward balancing polarities and creating wholeness in a mock session. Last, we will come together for reflections, questions, closure, and withdrawal.
Participants completing this workshop will be able to:
1) Formulate the attitude and practice of creative indifference and underscore the prominent thinkers that helped this phenomenon take shape.
2) Delineate and apply gestalt concepts, such as differential thinking, field, I/thou, present centeredness, polarities, figure/ground, and Perl’s layers of neurosis.
3) Engage in discourse about presenting issues and practical interventions.
4) Ascertain how to use creative indifference to make contact and invite figures with an inherent contradictory nature.
5) Aspire to achieve balance, integration, and wholeness by intentionally dwelling in the center of polarities as a creative place of work.
